Spring cleaning has arrived. On my last jog, I passed at least three curbs piled with unwanted lawn equipment. Before hauling broken or worn out small engines to the dump, consider alternative solutions.

Locally, we have partnered with individuals that rebuild, repurpose or recycle any type of lawn equipment. We happily and freely accept any unwanted equipment from the public.

Here are a few other options to avoid piling more unnecessary waste into landfills.

Start locally by asking neighbors, friends and family if they have use for the equipment. There are a surprising number of mad scientists in our own backyards.

Many urban communities have donation centers that accept unusual or hard to recycle items like lawn mowers, mattresses and computers. Many of these nonprofit programs provide jobs to people reintegrating into society. Many city's sponsor free free cycling days or contact your local chamber of commerce.

List the items on Craigslist. There are still kids eager to learn how engines and motors operate. Rebuilding a lawnmower can be a great exercise in their education.

If all else fails, call a local store like ours. We don't charge any fees; we only ask that you visit during regular business hours. Chances are every community has a better solution than dumping 80 pounds of scrap on the curb.
